This week we take a look at how to predict how each team will perform against the SEC, Pac-12, and the Big 12.
As a reminder, the top eight teams from each conference are seeded to advance to the semifinals.1.
Alabama Crimson TidePrediction: 9-3A little over two months ago, Alabama had a chance to get back on track.
A win over Auburn, and a loss to Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl would’ve put them into a position to take down the best team in the country, but a disappointing loss to Auburn, followed by a loss against a top-ranked Ohio State team, and then a loss on the road to a Texas A&M team that has lost nine games by a combined score of 14-0 to opponents ranked in the top-30 of the Associated Press Top 25 poll would’ve pushed the Tide back a couple of spots in the rankings.
Now they’re looking to do it again.
After a win over LSU and a win at Auburn, they’ll need to win the remaining two games of the season to be within a game of the SEC Championship Game.
And as Alabama continues to win, they will likely go on a tear in the ACC.
That means the team with the best record in the conference will be able to move up and make a run at the SEC title.2.
Florida GatorsPrediction 1-2This is a big game for the Gators.
This time, they’re playing for the second straight year, and while they are coming off a loss at Georgia, Florida is in the midst of a losing streak.
Their biggest test comes against a defense that allowed just eight touchdowns and just seven interceptions through three games.
But Florida has one of the best defenses in the SEC and a talented QB in Jameis Winston, and they’re going to be a force to be reckoned with.
Florida’s only real concern comes from the offensive line, which ranks fifth in the league with 31 sacks.
The Gators also have an edge rusher in Mario Edwards Jr., who is one of college footballs most dangerous receivers.
However, Florida also has the biggest road game of all, facing Alabama, LSU, and Georgia in the next three weeks.3.
Michigan WolverinesPrediction 2-0This is the first game of a three-game homestand for the Wolverines, who have lost six straight.
Michigan was in a great spot with a bye week before losing at Florida, but they’ll be in a different place now after being knocked out of the Sugar Bowl by Florida.
Michigan had a bye this week and was able to get a win against a ranked Alabama team, but that was the only win they had.
They’re going into this game as a favorite over the SEC’s bottom teams, but will have to come up with a big performance in this one.4.
Ohio State BuckeyesPrediction 3-0The Buckeyes finally made it to the Sugar-Bowl after getting kicked out of last year’s bowl by Alabama.
But it’s not all doom and gloom for the Buckeyes.
They beat Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to start the season, but it’s been a slow start to the season for Ohio State.
This is the third straight season that the Buckeye’s have been outscored by 30 points or more, and it’s going to make for a big test for this team.
Ohio will have a big advantage in the run game, with two guys on the team that can rush the passer and two guys that can throw the ball deep.5.
Clemson TigersPrediction 5-1The Tigers are one of three teams in the national title race, and will be facing off against Clemson this weekend.
The Tigers are coming into this one with the expectation that they will finish in the Top 25 and win the national championship, and that expectation was certainly warranted after the Tigers beat No. 13 Oklahoma State.
But the defense is still a work in progress and they still have some issues in the backfield, as well.6.
Florida State SeminolesPrediction 6-1In a game against LSU, Florida State was able by halftime to pull out a win, and with a win on the strength of a late touchdown drive, the Seminoles could have been the one to take over the title.
But a loss in Baton Rouge and an upset in Gainesville would have put Florida in a very difficult spot.
The offense has some questions to answer in the red zone, but the defense will need to get better in the coming weeks if they want to make the jump to the ACC Championship Game and the national semifinals.7.
Georgia BulldogsPrediction 7-1Georgia is in a big spot this week, as they host the Bulldogs this weekend in what will be their first meeting since beating No. 1 Clemson.
The Bulldogs have been struggling in the first two games, as Georgia lost at Auburn and at Alabama.
Georgia also lost to Alabama in the Sugar Game. But this
