LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said Saturday the Crimson Tide are “going to play for the national title” this season and they will be “really, really good.”
Orgerons team will have its first road test on Saturday when it takes on Alabama.
“They’re going to be good, really, really great,” Orgerona said.
“We’re going in there and we’re going play really good, and we’ll win that game.”
Orginons team started the season ranked eighth in the nation and has been improving steadily since the middle of March.
“Our focus is on the win right now,” Orgeons quarterback Jarrett Stidham said of the Tigers.
“Right now we’re focused on making the run and making the plays.
We’ve got to get out there and make plays, and they’ve got a lot of guys who are capable of doing that.
We’re going back there tomorrow and we’ve got the same attitude, the same mindset, and it’s just going to take some time to get back to where we want to be.”LSU will be playing its first game at Tiger Stadium since 2010, when the Tigers were in the SEC.
It will be the first time since the 2002 season that the team has played at Tiger Arena.
Orgeron has been looking to make a run at the SEC Championship Game since the start of his career.
He coached LSU to a 9-4 record and was fired in September of 2012.
He was replaced by former LSU assistant Tom Herman, who went on to win the program’s first SEC championship.
The Tigers have never won the SEC Tournament and finished their season ranked 10th.
“We’re not playing for the conference title,” Orgers head coach told reporters.
“It’s going to come down to what our guys do right now.
We got to come out here and play our best, and our best will be our biggest weapon.
We have to put in the effort.”
The Crimson Tide have won three of their last four games.
They are coming off a loss to Alabama on Saturday.
