Tech Football, the first of the new technology conferences, announced today that the Purdue (VA) Tech Football team will play in the inaugural Tech Football championship on March 25.
The Purdue will also be one of the teams that will compete in the Big Ten Championship, a new, six-team football league that takes place in 2019.
Tech Football will have five teams in the first two years of the conference, with the Big 10 starting in 2019 and the other five teams following the 2019-20 season.
Tech is the only football conference that does not have a football championship.
The first team to earn a Big Ten title in 2019 will play for the league’s national championship in 2021.
The conference is expected to have eight teams playing in 2019, but a conference spokesman said there will be no more expansion beyond the four that will join the Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC.
Tech, the second of the tech conferences, has an eight-team playoff with four conference champions.
The Big Ten is set to begin in 2019 with the addition of two more teams, but the conference will not expand beyond eight teams, the spokesman said.
Tech will be a part of the inaugural Big Ten championship game in 2019 as well.
The new conference will have six conference champions, including four of the six schools that would be in the league.
Tech would be the only one that is not a member of the Big East.
The conference has six other teams in three divisions.
