When Georgia Tech football players were playing in the Peach Bowl, the state was bracing for a new wave of college football.
The Georgia Dome, home to the national championship game, would be empty for the first time in decades.
But that is exactly what happened when Georgia State and Georgia Tech met in a regular season game.
“The stadium had about 500 seats,” said Georgia Tech coach Mike Locksley, a native of Atlanta who is now the athletic director at Georgia Tech.
“We had to play with less than half of that.
“But I don’t know how you put that into words. “
That was one of the most exciting times in the history of the sport in Georgia.” “

Locksleys team is now in a similar position to Georgia Tech’s last regular season matchup.
“When we played against them we didn’t have the stadium full, so we had to bring in a lot of extra equipment to get us ready,” said Locksys brother, Justin Locksy.
“There were people in our dressing room in the locker room.
You’re like, ‘What?
“I think it’s great to be able to come back and compete again,” Georgia Tech head coach Kirby Smart said. “
“To get a win like that against one of our archrivals, and I know they are a pretty good football team, it was a good night for them and a good week for our program. “

Georgia Tech has already won eight of its last 10 regular season games at the Dome. “
So I’m happy that we got a win against them.”
Georgia Tech has already won eight of its last 10 regular season games at the Dome.
But the team has struggled to win games in the first three weeks of the season, falling at Tennessee, Georgia and Vanderbilt.
“Georgia Tech is a good team, but they play good teams,” Smart said of the Bulldogs.
“They have a good offensive line.
They play a good defense.
They have a great offensive line, and their defense is solid.””

Georgia State has had a lot to play for in the past couple of weeks.
The Bulldogs are in the midst of a four-game losing streak, and they are coming off back-and-forth games against top-ranked Tennessee and Florida, two teams ranked as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country.
“What’s different about the last couple of games is that we’ve really had to get back to our fundamentals, our fundamentals have really come into play,” Smart told reporters on Monday.
Georgia will be without its top offensive playmaker, defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, for the next four games after being limited by a concussion. “
That’s the key for us, we’re going to have to go to our strengths and get the job done.”

Georgia’s defense is led by junior defensive tackle Joe Dahl, a two-time All-America and two-year starter who was the first player drafted in the NFL in 2009.
“He’s the type of guy who will be able help us at all times,” Smart added.
“It’s a big deal for him to be out.”
Dahl was drafted by the Eagles in the third round in 2015, and he has been a mainstay on the defense since that time.
“Joe has been there all along,” Smart continued.
“Every day that we play, we have to learn from him.”
Smart is hoping to add another player to the defense.
“This year, we’ve got some talented players coming in,” he said.
“[Joe Dahl] has been at it his whole career.
He’s done it his entire life.
He knows what he’s doing.”
Georgia is also without senior linebacker Tyquan Lewis, who was injured in the team’s win over Tennessee on Oct. 16.
“Tyquan’s going to miss some time,” Smart joked.
The Bulldogs also have to deal with an injury to quarterback Justin Jackson, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the fourth quarter of their win over Georgia Tech last year. “
Hopefully, we can get Tyquin back for a couple of months, and then Tyquans’ a freshman, so he’s a really good player for us.”

“Justin has been outstanding,” Smart declared.
“In a lot all of the preseason, I thought he was the best quarterback in the game.
But when he tore his ACL, I felt like he was going to be the best player in the world.” Georgia
